Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness before God interrupted his life with a new job. Wonder what he learned there? How did that time prepare him for what was to come? God never promised to protect us from wilderness times; in fact, he gave the Hebrews 40 extra years in the wilderness as they left Egypt. But he also directed them to take plunder from their captivity in Egypt as they left.

We all want the thrill of the mountaintop, but it seems that most of our learning takes place during our times in “captivity” or “wilderness”. What have the wilderness times in your life looked like? What did you learn about yourself during that period? About God? What happened during that time that prepared you for what God would do next?

God required the plunder that the Hebrews brought out of Egypt be used to build the Tabernacle where he would meet with them. Some of you may be in a time of captivity or wilderness right now. What will you intentionally bring with you out of that time into whatever is to come? What should you leave behind? Some of you may be hesitant to invest the plunder of your past into your present. Why are you hesitant? What is God planning that will require your plunder to build? Trust the God who brought you out of your past to use what you learned to build a future you can’t even imagine.
